Op-Ed: The role of your genes in muscle & strength gains

I want to look like a swimmer, so I will go swimming. I want to look like Christiano Ronaldo, so I go and play soccer. I want to look like a runway model, so I walk the runway. The last one makes no sense, right? So why should the other two examples be any different? Humans love these straight forward heuristics. That's because our brain loves simple cause and effect relationships that don´t require thinking hard and in turn, don´t burn a lot of energy. Kahneman & Tversky received the Nobel Prize for that observation. Learn here why we suffer these cognitive biases when we think about fitness as well and how our genes determine our results from strength training.

Muscle strength and golf performance, or why every golfer should do High Intensity Training (HIT)

When I answer the question "What sport do you play?" with a confident "I play golf," I get a cheeky smile and a comment, "That's not a sport." Meanwhile, golf is one of the most complex sports and High Intensity Training is key to improve your game in three specific ways. So, no matter how young or old, amateur or elite golf player you are, do strength training to enjoy improved posture, swing and endurance on and off the golf course.

If you could only train for a minute once a week, do strength training for your legs!

The strength lies in the legs. All athletes such as polo players, skiers, cyclists or runners benefit from strength training of the legs to increase athletic performance and endurance. The legs and buttocks are our most important muscle group in everyday life too. In addition, the increased performance of the leg muscles correlates with an improved testosterone balance, higher insulin sensitivity and accelerated recovery. So, how to train legs?

AURUM is high intensity strength training. Why? (Part 2/2)

The first part of this mini blog post series about high intensity training (HIT) dealt with the theoretical basis of antifragility of a human body and how this is also reflected in the adaptability of our species. The tendency to overreact (#dramaqueen) to external stressors has resulted in people being able to colonize every climate zone on this planet so successfully. Use this knowledge to get fit.
